Comments on: PS3 Media Server on Windows 7

It appears I’m having a similar issue as the first comment. Once the program is running, I am able to watch videos on the PS3. The problem I have, is I run the PMS.exe (using desk top short cut or running direct), nothing happens, then I run PMS.bat and the program opens and works fine. When running the bat, you then have to click any key to continue and it runs fine. I found the program will run using the jar file as well.

Any ideas why the exe file is not running the bat or jar files? And sorry if I missed something already posted covering this.

I’m just started using the PMS, and the only version I have d/l is the latest 1.52.1 the april release.

This program is bullshit, i’ve done EVERYTHING i read in this site and NOTHING made possible my ps3 connect to my pc, wired conections, wireless connections, nothing, not eve the stupid WMP

Hello. I have ps3 media server on my pc which contains all of my media files. My brother uses that computer regularly and I would like to listen to that music off of my macbook pro. I have been trying to pull up the media server, but I couldn’t see in the Finder or in iTunes. Could anyone please help? Any feedback at all would be appreciated. Thanks!

Who cares? It’s not my software. Nowadays I even don’t use it anymore because I have a NAS with integrated Mediaserver. I don’t need transcoding because that’s not necessary for popcorn hour media player.
I only wrote a howto for PMS some years ago because there was and still is no other. Some people are asking questions and when I have time I’ll try to answer them. That’s all.

Worst program ever, TVersity works fine PS3 Media Server doesn’t, uninstalled/resinstalled manually set network settings check FW ports, AV, network connectivity, UPNP, nothing wrong, just shitty PS3 Media Server.

Of course one can fix that problem. But first of all you have to do a root cause analysis. Several problems may cause that behaviour you described before. In order to fix it you have to know what causes the problem.
example:
If PMS has too less memory available that may cause stuttering. Some guys increased transcoding buffer size and also activated itunes support. Both costs memory. PMS uses 768MB RAM by default and overall you may get an java out of memory error. In order to fix it one has to increase the available RAM for PMS (not possible via GUI) or decrease transcoding buffer and/or deactivate plugins like itunes. After that usually there is no memory problem anymore.

If you want to do a root cause analysis you first have to understand how PMS works. You may read the PMS related articles in this blog or read faq in PMS forum.
PMS is for free and there is no support guarantee included. Alternative products like twonky media server offer support but it’s not for free…

There are two possible problems.
Your network bandwith may be to low for streaming HD videos (using engine tsmuxer).
There also may be several issues when converting HD videos on the fly to M2TS/MPEG2 (using engine mencoder): too less network bandwith, too less CPU power, too high value for transcoding buffer, bad mencoder settings, …
